Pattern rating

Hmm, I thought I posted something yesterday about this but anyway. I just wanted to suggest that the default setting for commenting on the patterns is changed. The default setting I don't like is that the checkbox "Post comment with rating" is checked. Because the default rating is 20% and a lot of people (including me!) write a comment, click post and accidentally give the pattern a bad rating. Good examples are pussygalore2906 and me at the Sadie pattern: positive comments, so probably not a bad rating on purpose. If it could be changed, then the rating of ALL the patterns would be more realistic and the rating would actually be meaningful. Now, you have to read through the comments to check if people didn't mess up while commenting to know what people really think about the pattern. I hope you find this a good idea :)

      I agree. This way the rating really is messed up. The default should be "Post comment WITHOUT rating".

      When I am signed in, I can't navigate away from page one of the rating page. I have to sign out to be able to see the full listing of ratings. I thought it might be my browser, but I have tried with AOL, Internet Explorer and Mozilla (on two different computers). Is anyone else having this problem?

      That's a good idea. I noticed too, that the rating often does not comply with the comments.

      I've noticed that while it says "only users who have downloaded this pattern can rate it," I see lots of low ratings that come with the comment "I can't download the pattern!" How are they rating it if they haven't downloaded it? (I realize that some users have downloaded the pattern but just can't open it.) More importantly, is it fair to rate a pattern based on the fact that you can't use it, rather than the quality of the pattern itself?

      Hey emmastaf, just any user can comment! It has this notice of "only users..." but everyone can leave a comment, whether they downloaded it or not. I don't know how they would check it anyway... So it is surely not fair to rate a pattern if you can't use it. It should be the people using it that rate it. I think it would be the most useful if people commented about how nice the creation you can make of the pattern is at the creation page and on the pattern page comment about the quality of the pattern, as in clearness of instruction and correct fit. @Wilson80917: I don't have this problem! It's weird!!!
