PROJECT 5-Layla apron and mittens

For the rest of December we will be working on the Layla apron pattern and matching mittens. Since December is a busy time with Christmas fast approaching i thought it would be a nice easy project that we could give as a present or wear on Christmas day while we cook and serve lunch or dinner. As usual post here to let us know what fabrics and trims you will be using, who you are making this item for and any alterations you may be considering. Personally i am going to be making this apron for myself and hopefully i'll be able to use up some of my stash fabric if i can find something suitable. Please remember that if you plan to make the mittens you should use a non-flammable batting/wadding to pad them out. We don't want any flaming accidents in the kitchen!!!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

      Working on my bachelor thesis

img src="yourfilename.jpg" http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd228/julietta-ffm/Burdastyle.jpg I want to make the apron and mitten for my sister and 2 year old niece. Just have to figure a way out to make the pattern much smaller. If anybody knows where I can find an apron pattern for kids I would really appreciate it. Both love Tinkerbell and so I will print the picture out on a foil that can be ironed on the pocket. The front will be checkered and the back light blue.

Sorry for double posting, but I thought I deleted one. Now I can neither edit nor delete the comments and the picture doesn't show either. Very frustrating!

Julietta- when you print out the pattern to make it for your sister before you stick it all together why not try photocopying the pages at a smaller size, maybe 30-40%?

busy moving to a new apt

(I think I know why the picture link doesn't work, Julietta: you forgot to put the opening and closing character of the img tag in the first post. so in you second post it was almost right, but the "img src=" part should have also been included between the two < and > . And before that - but isn't a big problem - Nikkishell didn't use the closing "bold" tag on her post - the one with the slash before the B: </b> - and put instead another opening bold tag: <b>, so everything that comes after it is still all bold beacuse it has never been closed) anyway, apart from that technical issue (I'm also a web designer) I might try the apron myself for my mother's boyfriend, which enjoys cooking and is really good at that, but since he always dress kind of formal, I was thinking of making the apron with an unusual kitchen fabric, and more of a male-dress fabric, if I find one I like and is not too expensive

and yes, I just now noticed that Fashion1 closed the italic tag with the slash after the I and not before it, so now it all is bold and italic. Now you will think I am a boring geek, but I really really like this web site, it is an endless source on inspiration, and just whish everything could work fine. So I'm closing both tags here now hoping that what comes next will be fixed. (and I also cannot edit my post in this thread at least).

      hosting a blog challenge

hi everyone-- i just made about 20 of these aprons for christmas gifts, so i thought i'd share a few ideas...

all my friends are of course different sizes-- for the big guys, i just lined the pattern piece up on the fold of the fabric, then pulled it away from the fold to accomodate-- if it needed to be 4 inches wider, i lined it up 2" away from the fold. likewise for smaller, i laid the pattern over the fold and took the hemline up as far as needed.

i made the pocket wider by about 4 inches. i used contrasting fabric for the pockets, and i found it looked better a bit bigger.

      happy sewing!!

      Learning how to make hairbows

I think I'll make my apron for my sister and my dad. She likes to make cakes and he loves to bbq so I think they would really use one. Now, I just have to find the right materials. Thanks to Oonaballoona for the tip on changing the width. This will really come in handy for me.

Thanks Nikkishell and Ale.b for your help. Printing it out in a smaller percentage is a good idea but I already found a kid's apron for only 1.50€ at IKEA and will use this as a pattern instead. Hopefully now the picture will work if not you can see the fabrics at my profile.

The material for my sister's apron also came from the Salvation Army. It was a full size sheet set with a cute blue and yellow floral print and I'm going to use a light yellow lining/ backing for the other side. I made an apron already for my dad using Dallas Cowboys material I had in my stash and it was SUPER easy. Unfortunantly, I dont yet have a digital camera. Maybe I'll get on for Christmas. :)

Okay, my sister-in-law let me use her camera and I've got my aprons all done. I think I'll make more. They are posted as creations but for some reason the site wont allow me to save it under the Layla pattern. I found it in accessory.
