I'm considering buying some wool fabric for a coat, but I want it to be really warm. I know it should be 100% wool, but are there any other specifications I should look for? I want it to be a good winter wool coat, not a fall coat. Any thoughts?
You could look for a coat weight wool tweed, or a nice Melton... I made this one (old Burda pattern) out of Welsh wool, with a heavy flannel backed satin lining:
I think a wool melton is about as warm as you can get. I actually have a cashmere coat I made years ago out of a fairly heavy cashmere and then lined it in silk chermuse--it's nice a toasty!

Thanks! I just got done ordering like 15 swatches from those exact pages. Looks like I'm heading in the right direction.
