While creating BurdaStyle, we were captivated by the open source philosophy: the sharing of intellectual property and allowing our Members to remix, recreate and sample, creating new designs. We assimilated the concept to BurdaStyle and created some patterns that we removed the copyright from. Our open source sewing patterns are free to be used as a base for your own design. Whatever you sew, you can sell if you like. We believe that removing copyrights from our designs will inspire creativity and spawn multiple new designs – and that’s wonderful! When you are browsing through our patterns, you can recognize the copy right free patterns as they are marked “produced by BurdaStyle”
Patterns which are labeled “produced by burdastylemagazine” are protected by copyright and can not be used for open source sewing!
You can sign up for the BurdaStyle newsletter at the top right corner of the Homepage. A new newsletter is sent out every Tuesday to your e-mail inbox.
BurdaStyle.com is a subsidiary of Verlag Aenne Burda, which also owns burda style magazine.
While we are under the same umbrella, BurdaStyle.com (launched in 2007) and burda style magazine (which was Burda Modemagazine and renamed “burda style magazine” in 2009) are two different companies. We have separate concepts and teams, yet both offer sewing patterns produced by Burda. BurdaStyle.com was launched as a pilot project to target a new audience in a new market and includes many social features and a different kind of look and feel.
