I’ve just had this crazy idea, thinking about the Burda Sewing Circles (and the difficulty of setting one up in outlying areas), and summer and travel plans and vacation… you get the idea. What about organizing a Summer Get Together, for example, on a regional basis? Even more, what about in New York in relation to BurdaStyle HQ? I’d love to go to New York City with a group of sewing enthusiasts, some projects, etc. (admittedly, I’m not that far from New York). Would anybody be interested in participating in such an event. I’m thinking more of “out-of-towners” than New York residents (although some of these could be usefully included as well for local contacts… Alternatively, I could look into organising one for a city closer to home, like Montreal… Find some good bed-and-breakfasts, etc. and look into some “sewing activities” that could be done – a tour of designer shops, or such like…

I’m just playing with the ideas, what do the rest of you think about this…?

Oh wow! I love this idea! Kind of like a Burdastyle sewing expo maybe? Teaching how to use the website, printing patterns and putting them together and of course sewing techniques. What a great idea!

Yes, I like that, a “sewing expo”. OK, Alden, if I take you at your word, is there a particular time which is more interesting than others might be to come and visit? And what kinds of “field visits” would you recommend for our “sewing expo” in NYC?

You probably need to post in the Burda Sewing Circle part of the forum, Bubbley74… and then just be patient. I’d love for a sewing circle in Quebec City, but as far as I know I’m the only active BurdaStyle member here (although I think there are a few others who are less active, and certainly some in Montreal). That’s why I’m trying to generate some other kind of “social activity”, such as a trip to NYC BurdaStyle HQ….

Do you have a room for all of us? On my way! Haha
I think it would be neat that when members travel they visit with other members. I won’t be making any trips to Wales anytime soon but I think Germany will be in 2011.

I would love to do, as well, but money wise I don’t think it’s possible for me right now, but it sounds like a great idea. I know one of the Local Chapters of the American Sewing guild does a summer tour of the LA fabric district for other ASG member every summer. Here in Texas I know of at least 3 facilities that cater to “sewing group retreats” and are booked year round more than a year in advance.

I think it would make sense to start with BurdaStyle HQ in NYC, but for other years I see no reason not to diversify! Might be fun to organize something to visit the parent Burda house in Germany sometime… but why not a meeting in the UK or other parts of Europe (India? Why not….)
