Halloween Costume Ideas by Sign (For You and the Kids!)
By astrotwins WED., OCT. 20, 2010 ,6:24 PM EDT
Halloween is right around the corner! If you’ve got a pint-size trick-or-treater at home the stars can be a great guide for kiddie costumes. Here are a few last-minute ideas for star-worthy costumes for your little ones! Then be sure to check out adult halloween costume ideas for your sign.
ARIES (March 21 – April 19)
The Aries kid loves to be number one, so put your little Ram in a scene-stealing costume like a futuristic superhero. (Aries Lady Gaga didn’t get famous just for her personality, after all.) The sign’s favorite color is red, a cute little devil or a flamenco dancer getup could make your Aries a scarlet starlet.
TAURUS (April 20 – May 20)
Saddle up! The sign of the Bull loves a rodeo, so go for a Western-themed look (cowboy or prairie girl from the frontier). Or, make like Taurus Rob Pattinson and let your Twi-hard tot join Team Edward in a spooky vampire getup.
GEMINI (May 21 – June 21)
Fun is the operative word—there are not enough colors in the rainbow for the Gemini kid, so let your little Twin’s imagination run wild. Surely there’s an altar ego or two in there already? The girls of this bubbly air sign make perfect fairy princesses. So you think you can dance? The limber Gemini kid often moves like he was made of rubber. Pay homage to the late Gloved One with a Michael Jackson costume (or don a mop-top wig a la Justin Bieber).
CANCER (June 22 -July 22)
The protective, nurturing instincts of a Cancer child make Halloween a time to bring out that inner hero. Dress your little Crab-cake as a fire fighter (Cancer is a water sign) or a cowboy/cowgirl. Cancer is the zodiac’s mother, so play to those burgeoning instincts with a Nanny McPhee or Mary Poppins getup.
LEO (July 23 – August 22)
The Leo child is a showboater, so fading into the crowd as a common ghost or goblin simply won’t do! Costume competitions were made for the Leo kid. With this sign’s heroic and protective nature, dressing as a favorite superhero can guarantee a delightful day. Or, tap into the feline instincts of the Lion and dress your kiddie as a kitty!
VIRGO (August 23 – September 22)
The fresh-faced Virgo loves an innocent fairy tale. This sign makes a great princess, knight in shining armor or even a scaly dragon. Martial arts often appeal to Virgos, so a kung-fun fighting costume can give your little grasshopper a chance to show off his/her skills.
LIBRA (September 23- October 22)
Gentle Libra is made of sugar and spice—there’s just no doing “scary” for this sign. Roll with the natural sweetness, and go for girlish over ghoulish. Your little Libra makes the perfect Disney princess, or maybe a character from Toy Story. Think wings: as an air sign, Libra makes a great bumblebee, butterfly or flying superhero.
SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21)
Halloween falls while the Sun is in Scorpio, making it the natural domain of this sign. Scorpio is the sign of extremes, and this sign looks great in black contrasted with white or intense colors like hot pink and orange. A pumpkin, a skeleton, a corpse bride—your creative little Scorpio will add his own original twist.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 21)
The Sagittarius child is spontaneous and marches to his own beat. Your little Archer may not decide on a costume until the last minute! This sign hates to feel confined, so avoid the elaborate getups that make it hard to trick-or-treat. With her soft spot for animals, your Sag will love to dress up as a dog, cat or a fantastical creature like a unicorn.
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 19)
The Capricorn kid loves legends (Lord of the Rings author Tolkien was a Cap), so encourage your future history buff to dress up as a favorite figure from literature or the past. How about a swashbuckling mini Jack Sparrow, a la Pirates of the Carribean? A Roman Gladiator, or a little Cleopatra from ancient Egypt? Pick an era, any era!
The quirky, colorful Aquarius personality is well-suited to a whimsical costume, like a bold-striped bumblebee. As a mischievous air sign, your little water-bearer will love flitting around in wings and a stinger! Aquarius rules science fiction. Recent fantasy movies, like Alice and Wonderland and Avatar, could inspire a mini Mad Hatter.
This ethereal water sign is ruled by Neptune, mythological god of the ocean. From fish to mermaids to sea monsters, you can plumb the depths of costume options. Don’t forget the ice—a hockey player (perhaps a haunted one!) could make a great costume for the more tough members of this tender sign.
