I am sewing a JJ blouse. I have stitched the collar pieces together and turned the collar inside out. For the next step, the instruction says to “baste edges, and press”. (this is step 7 in the JJ blouse instruction)
My questions are:
After I have turned the collar inside out, Why do I baste the edges before pressing?
Second, When exactly do I topstich the collar all around? before attaching the collar to the bodice, or after i have attached the collar?
I know this is very stupid question but I would really appreciate your help. It’s my first blouse and I would love to do it properly. Thanks in advance

It probably wants the edges basted to give a sharper crease when you press it. Personally I never bother as you end up with the basting stitches making dents in the fabric.
For top stitching: if the collar has a separate band, topstitch BEFORE attaching to the band. If the collar is all one piece, attach and then topstitch. :)
