I’m looking to sew some wide leg trousers ready for summer evenings. Can anyone suggest any good patterns? (preferably free!) I’m looking to make them something like the ones in the link below.
I’m between a size 8-10 :)

have you looked at the patterns on this site already? Cause I think there are some wide legged trousers on here!

If you have a trouser pattern that fits you well around the hips, it’s relatively easy to use it as a base for a wide legged pattern. I don’t remember where to add the width now, but check out any pattern drafting book (there are some online) and you’ll surely find it (google!). I think you could just extend the hipline so that it continues in the same direction instead of curving inwards towards the leg opening, if you see what I mean, and keep the led of the trouser balanced, so that you add about as much width on the inside and outside of the leg (ie mark the centre of the leg first, and remove the seam allowance before you begin, make a copy of the pattern). That way you can also decide yourself how wide you want the leg opening to be. The trousers in the picture have straight legs, so make sure you don’t curve the lines of the leg. Make a simple toile (no details, just for fit) from an old sheet or something to make sure it fits before cutting into the good fabric. If not, adjust and transfer all changes to your pattern. Making your own patterns is a lot easier than it may seem, and loads of fun, give it a go!

BurdaStyle’s Janina Trousers are a good pattern, although they are SO wide that you’ll probably want to take OFF a little width.
