Hi. This is my first time posting on the burdastyle forums. I am asking for help with finding a pattern (because I do not know how to draft a pattern myself). I want to recreate the shirt that Jennifer Lawrence wears during the training session scenes in the Hunger Games but need help finding a pattern that I can adapt. To practice sewing with polyester and all. What would you guys recommend? Or if there isn’t a similar pattern available, what should I do to make my own? My sewing skills are pretty good and I am willing to learn more to complete my project.

And here is a pictorial reference to understand where I am going with this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31n0ncfznCL.SX342.jpg

Trace the short sleeve pattern, cut it into wedges to suit the colour strips, and add seam allowances to the seam lines you cut.

You will need to use stretch seam techniques to sew the kind of fabric this requires: http://www.burdastyle.com/discussions/someone-help-me/topics/sewing-knits—2

Thank you so much for the advice, Kate. I can not wait to get started on my shirt.

I should also explain why I would rather make my own training shirt than buy one. I strongly identify with District 4 (the fishing district since I live in the coastal part of California) and the only available shirts are for District 12.

For a training shirt you might want to look into sports knits and wicking fabrics. Places to look would be Rocky Woods, Shelby (Finland), and other pervayors of Outdoors fabrics. :)
