Hello,

I was wondering how to wash this top ?

For now, I handwash it alone, but if I could put it in the machine it would be great.

Of course, I am worried that if I wash it with reds, the white becomes red, and if I wash it with whites, all my whites will get red.

And of course, I am now seriously thinking of washing my fabrics before sewing!

Thanks

If you have a small piece of the red fabric left sew it on to a scrap of the white fabric and throw the swatch into the washer and see what happens. If it doesn’t fade or bleed I would try it a couple more times to be sure. If nothing hapens to the swatch you should be OK to wash the top in the washer.

Always wash and dry your washable fabrics before cutting. This eliminates any sizing in the fabric and should shrink the fabric before you cut and sew.

I sure love my Shout brand “Color Catcher” sheets. I now use them in all my loads with color. I’ve even put whites in with reds. Works well. Whites don’t come out pink. I would wash the red a few times first though. It takes about 3 washes for the die to bleed before it mellows out. But this is a general statement. Natural dies tend to keep bleeding. Think of indigo died denim jeans… Good to use cold water wash for that, if you want the die to last.

I recently made a red/ white striped blouse – went to the hairdresser – and you’ve guessed it the colours bled into each other on the collar- luckily it doesn’t show too much ! I haven’t worn it since BUT when I launder it I shall have to use colour catchers !
