I want to make this pattern "l http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/high-collared-short-wedding-dress-32011

The pattern is for tall sizes. I am 5’1". All my height-related measurements (height, back length, etc) are smaller than the BurdaStyle size 16. The other measurements range from 16 (bust point, neck circumference) to 21 (hips)

How hard will it be to make these adjustments? How should I start? I do have most of a year to put this together and plan to make a full muslin mock-up before cutting up my real fabric.

What you need to do FIRST is get a full set of measurements taken (try this: http://www.diceyhome.free-online.co.uk/KatePages/Learning/Measuring/Taking-measurements.htm)

On the FRONT BALANCE, take the measurement to the bust point, and a separate one from there to the waist.

CHECK your measurement from waist to hip and from hip to hemline…

Once you know your basic size, you can adjust the pattern between shoulder and pust line and between bust and waist by the difference between these distances on the pattern. Fold and pin out the extra and then true up the seams between shoulder and under arm and between under arm and waist.

You may then need to adjust the armscye if the armhole is too small, or adjust the sleeve head if the armscye is OK but the sleeve now too large to fit in it and too large for you. You may need to adjust BOTH to get a good fit on you.

Adjust the skirt to fit your measurements between waist and hip and between hip and hem to get the proportions right for you.
