Hi,
I ended up using a waistband pattern from another skirt I had. I had to add some modifications to it. My result were ok, it was a little high for what I was aiming for, but I can’t complain.

I have the instructions from the original site, and can e-mail if it would help. N

I’m learning how to sew from a pattern, and have the Marie skirt mostly finished. I’ve found the instructions really difficult to parse myself (why are sewing instructions so crazy-weird?). Where are you stuck on the waistband? Have you already sewn in the part of the waistband with the interfacing? Have you put the zipper in yet?

I have gotten as far as the pleating. The wording of the steps for attaching the waistband are a bit confusing. Am i attaching the upper waistband separately then stitching the SIDES of the remaining upper waistband pieces together then finishing the inside of the waistband that way?? Ughhh. i am a mess with this. If you could email ANYthing like the instructions from the original site that would be so great! (ForMathilda@live.com)
Many thanks!

Oh good I’m glad to see im not the only one who is confused by this waistband shenanigans….. So what ui am wondering is, what am i supposed to do with the interfacing? Why is it so much longer than the waistband fabric peices? it says “iron the interfacing onto the wrong side of the outer waistband pieces and the outer flap pieces” what the heck is the outer flap? and where excatly do i iron it on if they are not the same size? this is driving me nuts! Has anyone does this part yet that can give me a clue?

For most waistbands on women’s skirts and slacks the outer flap would be the small piece where you would sew the button or buttonhole, depending if the button is supposed to be seen. Some skirts have this piece go behind the waistband, like a man’s trousers are sewn. I will reread the pattern instructions again to see if I can find a more user-friendly way of wording it. It might take a day as we are packing up to move. All you need is the waistband instructions reworded, correct? Cordially, Nehmah
NOTE: Team, could one of you step in here, so these folks can finish their skirts before I am moved? Please??? N

hmmm well this pattern does not have a button or a button hole, so i don’t know why the flap is in there. And the interfacing does not match the waistband pieces so i’m not sure where i’m supposed to iron it on. I would say more specific instructions for the interfacing(which is part of the waistband anyways) and the waistband if possible. thanks!

I’m confused on the waistband as well. I’m not sure how to attach it – the drawings aren’t very clear. Is there another version of instructions?

I’m stuck at the waistband too. Since I’m using an invisible zipper I thought I should finish the entire waistband first. (The instructions say that the waistband is finished after the zipper.) But aside from that, it is still confusing. Is there an easier way to explain step 5 “Doubling the Waistband”?

If you are doing a concealed zip, you need to put it in before completing the seam it’s inserted into, and only then start the waistband. The zip tape gets sewn into the waistband at the top.
