I was wondering if it was possible to add a collar onto a collarless coat. I’ve found a lovely one from Dorothy Perkins but it has no collar….. a big no no for me. Can an added collar be made to look like it’s always been part of the coat?

The coat in question is bright ref and a fit and flare style with buttons on one side.

Any advice would be greatly.appreciated…..

I suppose you could handstitch one on, but your stitching would have to be very strong.

Why not make a separate ‘false’ collar? Make one in lovely faux fur, on a fabric flange that you could button to the inside of the coat, like the reverse of a button-on removable hood that usually buttons on the outside under a collar? That way you could make the fabric backing and flange match the collar and not have to worry about matching the red.
