At one time it was possible to buy a basic straight dress pattern and then one could make various styles with this as the basis — this is the type of thing you want ( popular style in the 50’s when jersey fabrics were popular )It entailed a simple round neck, bust darts and darts to front and back for waist shaping. The back seam enclosed the zip and a slit could be left. Yes use any jersey/ lycra/ elastane type fabric. I shall look for a possible basic design and let you know

Have had a quick look — see Vintage Sewing.info – ladies garment cutting early 1940’s. However you may find it too complicated to do ?? Look to your pattern books or trawl through the Burda style site. I shall look too !! Also look at The Sewing Divas
