hello!
i wanted to make this pattern
http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/022011-jersey-jacket
in this kind of fabric
now the pattern asks for pique and this isn’t pique and nor have i seen pique in stripes sooooo my question is, will this fabric be ok? it seems like it will be too soft and flowing for the jacket.
should i be stiffening it up with some kind of interfacing? i know underlining it with a woven it will remove the stretch element. and if i should be using interfacing, what kind should i use?
thanks!

You don’t necessarily have to use pique. You can use suiting fabric probably and that defintiely comes in stripes. It’s just that the jersey fabric you found would COMPLETELY change the look of it as it has no real body to it. Look for “jacket” fabrics online.

Textile Definition of Pique: Piqué – A medium-weight fabric, either “knit or woven”, with raised dobby designs including cords, wales, waffles, or patterns. Woven versions have cords running lengthwise, or in the warp direction. Knitted versions are double-knit fabric constructions, created on multi-feed circular knitting machines. It is the texture of the fabric.
Agree with others, you need a fabric for Jackets or Blazers, they have different types of fabric that can be used for suiting type fabrics that would have some body and drape well.
4 way stretch fabrics commonly used for cycling clothes, swimwear, dance costumes or any activity that requires a stretch fabric. In other words it would be a hot mess for a Blazer.
The Jersey Blazer is not meant for Jersey Fabric with 4 way stretch, maybe they should have said Stable Knit. The information is very misleading on that pattern, if you notice the picture below by member she did not use jersey fabric.

thanks for the info sewingfan1 and patti-r!
patti – i did see the project below! it looks really great in the woven too. I just saw a striped blazer made with jersey a few months ago and I just wanted to make the same thing so I didn’t want to use a woven but I guess I will keep my eye out a nice striped fabric and hopefully it’ll be a stable knit! if not, i can try a woven…
