Does anyone have any suggestions and tips when setting snaps? I’m always very hesitant prior to hammering the snaps in place afraid it will shift and/or the prongs will somehow get loose and not “snap” thru the fabric.. Someone suggested a “snapsetter” while another says it’s a waste of money. I wasted a tote after carefully following directions to only find my snap off cenetered and one of the prongs didn’t prong thru the fabric. Any tips out there? Thank you!

See if any of these tips help, sorry I am Snap Challenged tried most of the tools with same results as yours. Snaps worked when testing on scraps but not on actual garment. Only do mostly couture snaps.

    Hoping others have more input.

I’ve had good success (so far) just using a hammer. However, and maybe this is the key, I use a small light hammer that is intended for finish nails.

I am definitely snap challenged. I’ve never got the hammer on sort to work and can’t even work out WHY they won’t. I’ve reverted to sew on types :-(

Which brand/who makes the snap setter you use? And which make of snaps do you use? I would really love to be able to use hammer on snaps if I could get them to work!!

I buy my snap setter and snaps from snapsource.com, they are the best!!! The snaps and the company!!!!! the setter is a three piece set and it holds everything in place nicely while you hammer away! I highly reccomend them!!!!!!!!!!!

Years ago I use to get all my snaps from Tandy leather Company. They sold snaps by the gross. I have had my snap setter for 48 years and don’t remember the brand. If you are making purses you should use the snaps from Tandy as they sell items for larger projects. Good Luck
