Hi there.
I’m trying to making an (apparently) simple strappy sundress pattern with a flared skirt and highish waist.
These usually work for me (shop-bought) due to my full body shape.
However, I’m finding that it’s just not hanging right at the back around where the zip will be. It’s as if it’s pulling slightly across the top side back area of the skirt. I’ve tried making the skirt a bit wider at the join to the bodice and there is plenty of room but it still doesn’t hang in a nice smooth way : /
Helppppp : D

Post a picture of the problem if you can so we can see… But from reading what you have written if when you try it on and it’s not hanging right at the back, I would guess that the problem is your curvy bum, I tend to move my zippers to the side when ever possible to get away from this problem when you have a bit of a curvy bum. Secondly have you graded up the skirt according to your lower hip and bum measurements to allow a proper fit??.I really need to see a picture but I would start with trying if it’s not too late to move the zipper and checking that you have the right measurements for your waist, hip and butt on your skirt.

Yes, please post a picture! Also, are you working on the muslin or did you go directly to the fabric?

Hi! I have the same kind of figure. I’m sure if I got what the problem is. Have you cut your pattern right? I cut another size for the top and another for the botton. Actually the smaller top gradually gets bigger. Have you tried taking in or adding darts at the back? This will assist the fitting and eliminate any sagging. Moving the zip at the side is a great idea too. Please do post a picture. Could it be that your zip is too long and your fabric too light? Some times zips just refuse to bend as we want them. Maybe you could make it shorted and put on your dress from above.
