I need help! I always, always have problems with the sizes that I choose to make. I don’t know if Burda patterns just run big or if I’m doing something wrong in my measurements. So I make clothes with no real purpose only to make it. Also my waistbands always look funny but I don’t realize I’ve done something wrong until it would be too much work to undo it. it kind of looks like i might have put a waistband on upside down because when I turn it in I have like a little waive to it. Has anyone had that problem?? Next time I’ll make the waistband first and make sure it fits me then attach it to the skirt. I just love this skirt I made but now I want to just throw it in the trash! any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The waists of skirts often stretch when you cut them out and handle them as they are cut on a curve. Are you stay-stitching them?
Out a line of stay-stitching round the tops of all skirt pieces, just inside the seam line. Before sewing the sections together, check that the waist of the skirt still exactly matches your pattern. If it has stretched, pull up the stay stitching until it fits.
Make sure you sew seams REALLY ACCURATELY. 1/16th" on each seam can add up to quite a bit!
A waist band needs an inch to an inch and a half ease. Pin it close and Sit DOWN IN IT to make sure it doesn’t pinch. Sitting down, you should be able to get both thumbs inside the waistband without it being either loose or tight.

Thank you, no I wasn’t stay-stitching it. I will use your advice next time. Right now I’m working on the Kasia skirt and I’m so afraid to start sewing it, but oh well, I’ll learn from my mistakes and if it doesn’t fit maybe someone else may be able to use it. Thanks!
