Hi all,
I need to make a very sheer over skirt out of silk chiffon. I need to know what type of needle and thread to use. Also how do I finish the seams and hem. I do have a seger. Thanks in advance.

It depends on your preference. I use sew all polyester thread (good quality) for practically anything. But if you want something finer use a silk thread. Use a very fine needle (size 60 or 70 on a universal needle). Use french seams for the best appearance and little fraying. It means you need to allow a little more fabric for your seam allowance. And a normal hem is fine in my opinion, but possibly make it nice and small? Try a rolled hem foot on your machine if you have one.

I use silk thread for most silk applications. However, if serging I use a good quality 120’s poly serger thread.

For silk chiffon I tend to use a rolled 2 thread seam, and a 2 thread rolled hem to edge it. I also use a 60 or 70 needle in the serger as well as the regular machine for these finer fabrics.
