OK so I am new to sewing and I thought the best way to start would be to thread pick an outfit until there all separated and draw around the pieces, now I have done that I am finding that the back is smaller then the front is this normal if not then any Ideas? also can anyone help me in making my basic draft pattern if the above is incorrect all advice is well appreciated xx

I think the back would be smaller than the front as it doesn’t have a bust to fit into it :-)

It can be a good way to learn but it might be useful for you to have a beginner’s sewing book too as it’s quite important to learn in which order to sew the pieces together again.

I’ve not drafted my own patterns before but I know there are plenty of members on here who do so I’m sure they’ll advise.

    Have fun!

If it fits well, it should be easy enough to trace off a pattern.

As you decontruct it, make a note of things like the interfacing used, and where, and any construction details.

PRESS all the creases you can out of the bits, without pulling or stretching them. and trace the pattern off the SEAM LINES not the edges of the fabric. You can add as much seam allowance as you like later.

    Hi

This is right the back should be smaller than the front which makes the side seams sit in the correct place.

Best to make yourself a block pattern, from which, you can learn to create designs.
