Burda Style For people who sew

I’m currently doing this pattern in a mock up without the lining etc. When I make the final product I’m hoping to make it entirely from cotton twill instead of using as it says lining for the back parts. I have completed the first stages which included darting the front of the waist coat and adding the welts for the pockets. This is another bit I’m not planning on adding is the pockets as I won’t need them to be funtioning. I have gotten as far as no 9 in the instructions which is pictured.

I honestly can’t get any further than this instruction as I can’t even begin to understand waht it actually wants me to do. I found that a lot of the instructions on this pattern seem odd. I have even tried working on it from the end to the start to see if anything comes to light as I take it apart but still nothing. Any help would be so greatly appriciated.

  seems to me from the picture that you need to take the lapel piece and baste it first right sides together against the coat front/jacket front (with basic running stitches before sewing with machine)- pivoting means this:- Pivot = when you need to turn a corner or change angle whilst you are sewing, stop the sewing machine with the needle in the ‘down’ position (the needle anchors your work to your sewing machine), lift up the machine presser foot and pivot (or on other words change the angle) of your work before lowering the foot and sewing merrily on your way again.

  Thank you for the answer. I was having a hard time figuring out how to pin it as the illustration was wrong.

  I actually worked it out in the end but thank you floreedith. It took me having the pieces on the floor and then trying it pinned first before I got it right.
