hi everyone!
my boyfriend is coming back from 5 months in China, and i want to surprise him with an asian-style dress.
I mean the kind with a stand-upish collar an an a-symetrical cut on the front, you know?
i managed to find one that looks great, but the pattern doesn’t tile- it only comes out as a single A4 sheet.
Does any of you have access to a free pattern similiar to that?
[I’v tried googleing it, but i seem to get an auful lot of PG movies involving very young asian girls when I search for “asian dress” :( ]
thanyou so much!

Hello, If you use PDF X-change viewer, AND your printer has the tiling option, you can print out this pattern. I just did. Enter pdf X-Change Viewer in your browser search box for a link. I will “try” for the link. It might work, look for link and run your cursor over it. Cordially, Nehmah BTW, If I blow it, I will try gain. I’m stubborn. N

How about the Fatina pattern from this website? Or, the Hong Kong Cheongsam pattern from Amazon Drygoods (only two main pattern pieces, the back wraps around to form cap sleeves; the curved front piece opens at the right below a mandarin collar, custom fit instructions fo day or ankle length), available in sizes 6 – 16, I think the price is around $16.00. Hope this is helpful, respectfully, sweet-saboo.

Hi nitzan, I had the same problem with mod patterns and after much trial and error came up with the following :- To print mod patterns.:-Open pattern file in adobe pdf reader. Change image so that it is showing at actual size – 100%. Click on Tools – Select and Zoom – Snapshot tool. Drag pointer/curser to include whole image, ie top left corner to bottom right corner, a window should pop up saying “the selected area has been copied”. Open Microsoft office excel click first cell (A1) right click and select paste, image should be full size. In Excel – page layout – click on margins pick narrow. Check bottom left of page for number of pages, in print preview-page setup change orientation to landscape, check number of pages again, use whichever layout uses less pages. Print. you have to do a bit of cutting and sticking but it works for me, hope it helps you. FYI I am useing adobe reader 9 and microsoft office 2007 however the principles should be the same in other versions of these programs. If I haven’t been very clear just contact me and I will try to help.

Thanks Jude, I have saved a printscreen of this instruction. While I use PDF X-Change Viewer ver2, and whatever print setup my latest printer has, this will be a good, (if
for meslow way of making a pattern) should things go wrong. Cordially, NehmahSep 6, 2009, 08.40 PMby mickeygirl
try looking up Ao Dai, Vietnamese dress.
You could just use a regular dress or tunic pattern that has fitted darts and the neck you like. You can trace the front and add the asymmetrical closing and some buttons and loops. The dress could have a zipper at the back because I have seen Ao Dai with zippers. Just don’t forget the side slits or you will not be able to walk.Sep 8, 2009, 11.56 AMby nitzan2
