I love the Nadine jacket, and am finally ready to make my own! Trouble is, I’m not sure which pattern to purchase: my upper body falls in the regular size groupings, but my curvy hips put me in the plus. That’s no problem for skirts, as I know how to grade them. But the alterations made on the plus size are more to my liking (no frilly bottom and cuffs) and will flatter me better. I’m just not certain I can alter the pattern down to fit properly (I’ve only made one jacket before).
Should I purchase both, and try to combine the style of the plus with the fit of the regular? Has anyone had this issue? If so, what did you do? Is this an easy pattern to adjust the size of?
Thanks!!!

It is far more easier to flare the pattern in the hip-waist area than to adjust the plus size pattern to fit you. I would advice you to start with a size that fist your bust/torso and make a muslin. Make alterations on your muslin until you’re satisfied with the fit. It really isn’t that difficult.

Thanks AnaJan! I figured it was easier to start with the pattern that fits, but I wasn’t sure just how many changes Burda made to the Plus size. I actually like the style of that better – it has no ruffles/flare, and is more streamlined. I wish they’d be more specific of exactly what the differences are between the two, or just offer the Plus style smaller. Muslin it is!!!

I was thinking about the same thing with this pattern as I am right around the size break, and I ended up buying the smaller size range. You can download the instructions for the plus version without actually buying the pattern, though, and it looks like the alterations instructions should work just as well for getting rid of the ruffles on the smaller size patterns (I haven’t actually done them yet, though!)

Thanks, ncn6! I must be blind…I didn’t see where to download the plus size instructions. I’d love to see your results, and I’ll share mine!

I’ll definitely upload pics when I get the jacket done, although it may not be for a little while since I have a baby quilt taking up all my sewing time at the moment! I would love to see your version, too. It’s such a nice looking jacket that I’m surprised more people haven’t sewn it up!
