Hello,
I just cut out the front of the Marie skirt and sewed the front pleats. Should I put pleats in the back of the skirt too? I feel like it might be bulky. If I decide not to do pleats in the back should I cut the skirt differently? Does anyone have a picture of the back of their Marie skirt (with or without pleats)?
Sorry for all the questions. This is my first time sewing clothing.
Thanks so much!

I have just looked at the picture on the site and yes there are soft unpressed pleats in the back. I am sure that a plain back may be possible. Since the pleats do not extend in to the hemline then that should remain the same width , for walking. Fold away one of the pleats on each side and sellotape into place. Where the other pleat is marked then make 2 darts close together ( these will be about 11 cms long ) and will take up the equivalent amount of fullness as the pleat. These will give shape to the back. Pin all in place and fit the paper pattern onto yourself to check the position of the darts and the sizing. The Marie skirt is tulip shaped and is likely meant to be worn with the waistband and shaping showing.
