I just bought some mystery wool blend fabric and after a burn test have realised it has probably some polyester/nylon. I was wondering if lining it with a natural fibre like cotton would help alleviate the disadvantages of the synthetic fibres. Would it some how make it feel more breatheable or perhaps if one is caught in a fire ensure that the poly doesn’t melt on the skin. Sorry if the question is a little silly…I’m a bit of a noob…

Wow! What are you going to be doing in that dress?!! Yes if you line it with natural fibres it will probably give you a bit more protection in a fire. However one of the advantages of having a polyester lining is that the wool slips straight off it and doesn’t grab the fabric. It’s also more durable. Natural fibres are more breathable though, but I think you might be fighting to keep the lining down. Personally I wouldn’t worry about the lining – I would just make sure to stay away from open flames!

Thanks for the reply. I’m just overly paranoid :P Seeing the stuff just melt into blob in the burn test doesn’t help either. What do you mean by fighting to keep the lining down, though? Is it because it wrinkles or…

:) natural fibres tend to cling to each other. So I think instead of the lining slipping constantly with every movement back into place, it will grip the wool and slowly ride up.
