Hi, I’m making a dress soon and it uses an invisible zip. I’ve only put one in before and it wasn’t the best as I found it hard to get the stitching close enough to the teeth so that it didn’t show but not so close that it didn’t zip using my normal zip foot on the sewing machine.
I found an invisible zip foot on ebay (see link at bottom) and was wondering if anybody has used this type before and what sort of sucess they have had.

I’ve never bothered with a special foot. My Husqvarna has a very substantial zip foot and lots of needle positions, no I’ve never found one necessary. You may have more of a problem if your machine has a narrow zip foot. This is how my one works: http://www.diceyhome.free-online.co.uk/KatePages/Learning/Bridesmaid_horror_story/sewingzip.jpg

I use an invisible foot zipper with my Elna. I baste the zipper in first, sewing down the tape with my regular foot, this keeps it nice a still, then I run down it with the invisible zipper foot. The great thingabout the foot my machine uses is that it rolls the zipper teeth out of the way so the needle gets nice and close, it looks great when finished, the zipper is truly invisible and looks like a normal seam. I always get a bit worried when putting the zipper in, it’s an un-natural fear I have :) but it usually turns out just fine.
