I want to use a double needle on my sewing machine. My older machine had two spool holders on top. I used to use the spool and matching bobbin and just use another bobbin colour on the bottom since it would not show. My new machine has only one spool holder on top of the machine. Where can I put the other spool of thread?

Are you sure that your new machine can take two threads on top ? In order to use a twin needle for embroidery the bottom plate and the bobbin internal holder need to have an opening large enough to cope with the twin needle – please refer to your handbook or supplier.

I have seen some things online that look like a spool spindle extension. It seems like the two spools are basically stacked? There are also some attachments made to go into the various holes that are sometimes on machines. In either case, try searching “extra spool holder” or something similar + your machine brand. Any machine zig zag capable machine should work for a twin needle, so long as the needles fit through the throat plate slot alright.

You can put the matching bobbin on top of your spool if there is room. If not, you could cut a drinking straw down to size and slip it on top of your spool holder to use as an extension.
