Hi,
I want to make the Marie skirt but I have never sewn clothes before.
I want to add lining. Does anyone have any pointers on how to do this? What fabric should I use to line it?
Any pointers on how to add a zipper?
Be as specific as possible. I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. I have used my sewing machine twice. Any other advice you have would be great!
Thanks!!

Your lining choice will depend partly on the outer fabric you choose. For heavier weight fabrics, look at anti-static linings like Bremsilk. For lighter fabrics, look at polyester and silk habotai. Personally I really hate the nasty stuff most shops sell as ‘lining’ fabric. It’s harsh and clammy and shoddy.
If you want something a little different, ask Sid Trim for samples of their patterned linings. For heavy wool I like a twilled satin coat lining. I have also lined jackets with blouse fabric to match a blouse (a la Coco Chanel), and dresses with light weight silk satin.

To line the Marie skirt, just cut the skirt parts agsin in the lining fabric, sew up separately just like the main skirt sections, and sew in at the waistband.
The instructions include notes on inserting the zip. However, they are rather brief, and you might like see something more detailed. Try this: http://www.whatthecraft.com/tuts/zip.htm
