I have basic blocks with my measurements. Is there a (easy) way to use these to alter a commercial pattern so it will fitt me? I hope someone can help me with a comment?
Thanks for your trouble!!!

While waiting for a respons I found some useful video’s on YouTube which I like to share with you :) I find them very usefull, and I use the video instructions in combination with my personal fitting pattern (Butterick 5746) which I have personefied as mentioned in the Butterick Pattern instruction. In the video’s they use ‘Sure-fit-designs’ but that is not neccecary !

The video’s: Example1-Blouse-How to fit commercial Patterns with Sure Fit… link1: blouse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrRAMzViuaQ link 2: asymetric blouse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BppMeRRuZwA link 3: jacket http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHmd97vitPc but perhaps somebody has some more information.

Hi Maria, the blocks are only really useful if you want to make a pattern from scratch. If you’ve bought the pattern, the best thing to do is to do a basic rough outfit and remark and take in where you need to, and then alter the pattern. Sorry

Hi Maria! There is a Threads article on this very topic! The Sloper (another name for block) is invaluable when putting it against the bought pattern, according to the article. It’s written by someone who teaches sewing and uses blocks to show what needs to change. She even includes examples on how to use them! They are not just used to build new patterns, although they are fantastic starting points for sure! Check it out here: http://www.threadsmagazine.com/item/4498/the-merits-of-a-basic-fitting-pattern/page/all

Thanks for the video links! I have used the Threads article Tiffany posted to alter a pattern with my bodice block and had a lot of success. I wish more people covered this topic.
