I am making a dress from my own pattern but need advice for the closure.
the dress is strapless and has a sweetheart neckline. I want to put a laceup back in it with gromets but I do not want the laceup to go very far down my back (until my natural waist line)…is there an invisible type of closure I could add below the laceup part so that I can still get into the fitted dress?
Is this an AD?

You can use hook and eye fasteners and put them so they’re not visible I’m sure

If the lace up part is mostly for decoration i would put an invisible zipper (available from most sewing places) in the side seam with a hook and eye at the top and not actually undo the lace back.

thank you for your replies tailorstack: i thought of that after i had already sewed some of the pieces together, would have made more sense but I didn’t want to put a zipper in the side. thanks for your insight. sewingfan1: do you think the hook and eyes will not make the fit look smooth (flattering) around my hip area?

I guess it depends how thick your fabric is, if it was thick enough it should hide any of the lumps and bumps of the hooks I’d have thought. Or why not put an invisible zipper from the bottom of the lace up part down and you could have it extending up a cm or 2 into the laceup so that the little puller on the zipper is concealed? Practice at sewing them in if you haven’t done it before (a specific concealed zipper foot is really useful!) as whne done prooperly they really are invisible.
