I’m going to be spending a couple of weeks in Italy in September and would love a chance to buy some fabrics while I’m there.
Given time limitations (and an uninterested husband), I will need to plan it pretty well and would prefer a location/s which have a high concentration of fabric stores.
Do any members have experience that they can share with me?
Thanks in advance.
Josey

Hi Josey, where exactly are you going to be? I’m in Northern Italy and have found it very difficult to buy fabrics here. Really good fabrics are expensive, and good shops are few and far between (at least in my area). A quick google search brought up this shop/warehouse in Padova. Click on “Dove siamo” to get their address and a map and email address. http://www.marcontessuti.it/ Here’s the link for a chain of stores of very high quality. Perhaps you can find an outlet where you are going. http://www.giessescampoli.com/ Sorry the sites are in Italian. Click on “i nostri negozi” at the bottom of the page for a list of their shops and addresses. Good luck! Margaret

Thanks Margaret, My itinerary is still open and location of attractions (including fabric) will be a contributing factor to the decision making process. Thank you for the links – I will add them to the list! I’ve found some suggested stores on travel forums; mainly in Rome and Florence, but no comments regarding pricing so I guess I’ll just have to see when I get there. Fabric is expensive here too, and sometimes it’s cheaper to buy a garment than an equivalent fabric, but it can be worth it to see the end product sometimes!
Cheers Josey

I hear what you’re saying about “bought is often cheaper”, but we know the joy of finally wearing a perfectly fitting garment we’ve made, don’t we?
