Hey,
It is nearly winter here and i want to try out some simple cape/coat patterns but I am a complete novice and allergic to wool. Most patterns of this type suggest wool as a material but being unable to wear it I was wondering what other materials make a similar material together. Also if there is anywhere good online for such materials as the town I live in is quite limited in sewing material and mainly only provide fabric for quilting.
I am hoping i get a few suggestions to go with and thank you for your time sorry if this has been asked before.

Hi VintageFusion! Look for fabrics that called coating or suiting.Rayon works OK. I have the same problem. Not really allergic, but I get very irritated and itchy. If I have no other option or fall in love with some gorge wool than usually make the collar from leather or some other material that don’t bother me. You can also finish the edges of the sleeves with it. The only online store I know or use is here in the USA, but they ship international. Called Fabric.com. Check it out! Good luck!

Hi VintageFusion
You could try Tessuti – the online store ships from Sydney and they have a good range. Clegs also has an online site and good range but it’s harder to navigate.
Good luck!
