Hi all! I’ve been lurking here for quite sometime but I have a burning question that has yet to be answered.
I have a pair of pants from Express (store in the USA) that I bought last year. Since there’s no Express here in Toronto, Canada and I’ve been looking far and wide for a pair of dressier, polished knit pants, I decided that it’s better off to put my almost finished (but I quit to become a graphic designer instead), very rusty (I have not sewn in almost a decade) fashion design education to good use.
I am interested in making a pair of pants similar to this:

Unfortunately, I have NO CLUE what the name of the fabric is, where to find it in Toronto, Canada OR online, and what patterns to use with this fabric (can I use patterns for woven?).
I’ve heard of ponte di roma but I hear a lot of good and bad things about it. The good: it’s wrinkle-free and very comfortable and is good for travel. The bad: it’s those nasty polyester 1970’s type fabric!!! Has anyone had experience working with Ponte di Roma or any dressier double knit fabric before?

Yeah, it’s a double knit but the right kind of stretch to flatter one’s butt. Theory tends to use very high-tech blends that might be tough to come by at regular fabric stores. Try B&J, Paron, and of course Mood in NYC. A lot of small-ish designers order special things from mills or get gigantic bolts of sample fabric that they then sell to Garment District fabric stores. One of those stores might have the exact same stuff. Or here’s a longshot: call Theory and ask where you can get a piece of it. Good luck.

Thanks so much! Unfortunately I am not in the NYC area. I will look into the stores you mentioned (online) though! :)
