I am having trouble finding the right dress form. I know about the Dritz Double Deluxe, and it seems affordable but when reading the reviews, some people say that it is flimsy and easy to break. So if you fantastic sewers out there could guide me into finding the right dress form (that is affordable & good quality) then that would be perfect! Thank you

2 of my students have bought this form, I’ve also bought half size from them and they have been good, but this best deal I’ve found

I use dressforms from Roxie (a google search brings them up, based in NJ). I found their pricing the most competitive and the quality of the dressform is great. With all dressforms check to see the sizing meets your expectations/needs.

I have a family of Adjustaform dress stands., I like the versatility of all the sizes they can reach. Yes, with the adjustability you also get some fragility: you are bound to with 8 parts and all the screw adjustments. On the other hand, my oldest one is heading for 30 years of slave labour, and has only needed to be taken to bits and mended once. And that was after something fell on her in storage.

Hi have a Singer 150 and lots of people complain that they are flimsy and they break too, I have no idea what people are doing top them to break them! :) I adjust mine all the time and I actually prefer the light-weight body so I can lift it off and move it around…anyway, I know you are looking at a different form but what sold me on my final choice was finding one in a shop to play with, so that’s my advice ;) Go and play with one in real life and make your own decision.

I wanted a sturdy dress form and purchased mine from the Manne-King company (very happy). http://www.manne-king.com. It is not adjustable. It was purchased as a close-out at a good price. I gave the lady my bust and hip size. From time to time, they will put their short stock or discontinued products on e-bay at a really good bargain. You have your choice of stands or bases and for a small fee they can add a covered hanging loop onto the back neck. This allows you to hang it from the ceiling (eye hook into stud) for draping longer pieces.

Do not sew for profit, but sew for family and friends, have three dress forms, all adjustable:

Agree with Kate on the quality of these dress forms love it.

Agree with Kiwi no reason this would not work for someone. IMHO The base of Singer stand is made much better than the Dritz.
Vintage Acme Size A on the metal tag, is over 50 years old, you have to loosen or tighten the wing nuts on inside but it is still in great working/looking condition, she is not used as much as others use her for steaming.
My grandparents wanted to give me several from their shop, not adjustable used in their business, they were too heavy and did not want to store them. Check out Craigslist, you might find a well cared for one, at a good price.

Thank you all for your suggestions!! Unfortunately, I checked out all of the forms you mentioned but they don’t have any in my size (I’m very petite, a size 2). Thank you for your help anyways!

Adjustaform’s Teen form should suit.

Hi! I’m a size 2 too, and I actually gave up on buying a dressform and made one. The petit and teen-forms have very narrow shoulders, so I would have had to pad the shoulders several cm’s to make it work and I just didn’t think buying a form that I had to make major changes to was worth the money.
If you do decide to buy one, make sure to check things suck as shoulder- and back widths as well as hip-waist-bust measurements.
And a big good luck in your search!
