Hello I haven’t done textiles in a few years, but I am determind to get back into it and I have set myself a challenge, to make a dress inspired by sherri hill evening wear which I have being obsessed with for a while because I couldn’t afford the dress for my prom. I have worked out its just a corset and skirt that need to be made but I have no clue were to begin and any help would be grateful :)

The first step would be to make a practice corset. Find a good pattern, take measurements and get all the bits and pieces. There is a thread on Burda that is about corset making. Feel free to ask questions if you get stumped!

There are a lot of great prom dress patterns that feature corset tops. When you pick out the pattern focus on the corset shape that you like. You could use the pattern for the bodice and the fit of the skirt and then make alterations to make the skirt look like the Sherri Hill dress. Good luck!
