I am not sure I can post someone correctly: maybe I did it twice! Any of you girls can give advice about resizing a wonderful down jacket (it is a L, and I need a S)? Or i had better drop the idea altogether (flying feathers nightmare)? Good sewing to everybody!

Not really worth it. Better to sell it and buy a replacement as it’s so much bother and mess.

I have to agree with KateXXXXXX, a lot of trouble but if you are really keen, when I shortened the sleeves of a friends down jacket this winter I stitched just above and below where I needed to cut and then again on what would be the hem line and this seemed to stem the flow of feather too much but a very fiddely job.
