Hi, I’m about to purchase my first sewing maching and I was wondering what people thought would be a good choice. I want something basic but good quality that I can use for hobby sewing at this stage. Any suggestions………..?

PS I went to a sewing shop and the lady suggested a Husqvarna/VIKING 116 Emerald.

What’s your budget and how often do you actually sew?

Well I am a complete novice so haven’t sewn much at all since I was a teenager. Looking up to $400. Something very basic.

Thank you for your responses. :)

Brother has quite a few good models under $400 and they even have a sewing/embroidery machine as well in that price rage Amazon has the most though reviews. I’ve had quite a bit of experience with machines in this range and believe Brother does the best job of producing a quality product.

My first and current sewing machines have all been Brother’s, they are excellent quality and craftsmanship. Great for beginners and pros equally:)

I’ve got a brother and it works really well for me. So i’d definitely go with the brother brand.
