Ok. So. I bought this fabric at the dollar store. It was already cut into one yard pieces (rather one meter pieces). It’s cream and because the tag was in Japanese, I couldn’t tell what the fabric was.

Went online, found out it’s about 65% polyester and the rest is cotton.

I washed & dried it, but when it was done it came out all really crinkly and really, REALLY stiff, like paper! I couldn’t straighten it out by hand, even the edges curled in. Never experienced this with any kind of polyester.

Now I don’t know what to do with it. I guess I could try some kind of jacket, or something. I dunno.

Any other ideas? It doesn’t have to be clothing.

I actually like the texture, but I just can’t fathom what to do with it. But I don’t need to stay with the texture. Maybe it will iron out (but would that be a bad thing, considering what happened after the hot dryer?)

That is strange sounding, I don’t know much about fabrics but it does sound like it reacted to the hot dryer. I like the idea of a jacket, or how about a cool handbag style bag? If it’s gone super stiff it would hold a really nice shape

    How about a pleated skirt?

Put it on a low-temp steam iron and see if it behaves the same as the dryer. I think dryers dehydrate fabrics so perhaps that’s why it’s freaking out.

I think the idea for a hand bag would be good. If the fabric is doing odd things in the wash there is no telling what future washings will bring. Better to make something that won’t be washed as often or that isn’t size critical. It would be a shame to put in a lot of time making garment only to have it resize it’s self in the next wash.

The bag sounds like fun. Or maybe you could branch out and consider lampshades, room dividers, journal covers, sewing machine cover, placemats….. Maybe have a look at home decorations rather than garments or accessories.
