Hi Everyone,
I’m wanting to draft a pattern for a peacoat. I have a basic bodice sloper, is this suitable for use or should I create a new sloper specifically for drafting coat/jacket patterns?
In the case of having to make a new sloper, is it possible to use my bodice sloper as a guide eg simply add extra ease.
Thanks in advance.

a coat needs to have more ease through the body (bust , waist, hips), more room in the armholes. The shoulders would not be increased to much but just enough to go over other clothing.
Maybe measure a jacket that you have already and like the fit. That gives you some idea.

Your basic bodice sloper is the basis for all upper body garments. You just need to add the correct amount of ease for an outer garment to wear over other things, and for the style you want it to be.

Agree with other comments on Ease.
Check out this from pennieannie: http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/basic-classic-skirt-pattern-diagram-to-make-skirt-in-any-size-1920s-era Has a book that may assist you in adding ease for a coat.
Or try this ease allowance chart by Butterick: http://petite.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=petite&cdn=style&tm=6&gps=77_31_1067_430&f=10&tt=12&bt=1&bts=0&zu=http%3A//www.butterick.com/tech/ease/ease.html
