(I hope I’m not making a mistake, posting this question. It’s not a pattern magazine right?).

I’ve been reading on posts about how good this magazine is. But I’m still wondering if I should subscribe. Does any of you get it?

I have a subscription (this is their website: http://www.threadsmagazine.com/). And you are correct they are not a pattern magazine :)

I’ve only received 2 or 3 issues so far (I am a relatively new subscriber), a new magazine is published every 2 months (so you’d only get 6 issues per year). I’m only a beginner but I really enjoy their magazine and I’ve also bought some old copies (back-issues) from eBay – as some issues have a big article on a very interesting topic/subject that I wanted to read about.

If you go to the website you can see online copies of a few of their older articles to see if your like the kind of thing they write about, here are a few examples e.g.: (1) Making Sense of Pattern Grading, (2) Bag Your Jacket Lining, (3) To Get the Right Armhole, Fit the Bodice, (4) Drape a Skirt Sloper, and (5) Merits of a Basic Sewing Patterns

I have just subscribed to Threads magazine and have written a brief review of it. (No photos in case of copyright.) You can read it at my blog http://thesewingcorner.blogspot.com/2011/06/i-chose-threads-magazine.html

I hope that helps! Sabrina Wharton-Brown

I have had a subscription to Threads, and now get it through school. While the content of the magazine is really good, I have real issue with the fabrics and patterns that they choose to use in their magazine. I’m a visual person, and I find that what they choose sometimes turns me off of sewing the garment! I want my teenage students to get excited, and when they look at the garments, the look on their face is sometimes not too good!

However, their articles are really good, and I like the fact that they are able to attract beginner to very experienced sewers with their publication. I also use their website when I’m stuck about a particular technique. If you’re newer to sewing, you may want to check out their sister publication, Sew Stylish (sewstylish.com). It’s only published a few times a year, and many of their articles are reprints from Threads. Their Fall 2010 issue had a great article about how to sew jackets, including bagging a lining, and their current issue has info on repurposing/recycling.

I love threads. i REALLY need to get a subscription because buying it off of the news stands gets expensive. however, it is true that some of the patterns and prints they use are a little off putting. :/ but They have great ideas and how to`s and the one i just purchased has some great articles on basic sewing (hems darts etc) i highly recommend :)
