Hi
I’m currently making a dress from a blouse pattern (Simplicity 2650), and as it’s in silk, I’m planning to line it and do away with the facing. I’ve done this before without dramas, but in this case it’s quite a loose flowing top, and I’m wondering if I should apply interfacing to the lining as I would have done with the facing? Any recommendations?
Cheers
Josey

I don’t usually use interfacing at all if the dress is lined. You might want to stabilise the neck seamline with either a line of stay stitching or with tape like this before sewing it, but there is usually no need for interfacing.

Hi Josephina, I looked up this blouse and I am not sure which style you’re making- but if the blouse has a placket, or center front section where you are to place buttons and button holes, I would cut a piece of interfacing the size & shape of the facing piece you’ve discarded and apply that interfaced piece to your blouse. This will prevent drooping and create structure. Tension could create your silk blouse to fall in funny ways if it isn’t interfaced… Just a thought.

I would suggest to use a sew in interfacing. Ok what do you call interfacing? Anything that lends structure to the overall garment in areas that cause stress..like buttonholes right.
I would use self fabric or organza, batiste anything with a grain and is light. ( could be lining fabric if not to heavy) as my interfacing. baste the two layers together and treat as one unit. hope this helps :)

Thanks for the comments everyone. I ended up using a stabiliser on the seam (mainly for my own peace of mind) and it worked well. Now I just have to find the time to finish it off.
