I’ve got a bulk of old patterns, but most of them are a couple of sizes too big for me. Is there an easy way of taking them down a couple of sizes, or is it a ‘take each pattern as it comes’ kind of scenario?

I have experimented in the past by cutting in an inch on the outline here and there, but it’s always with mixed results.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Take a look in a good pattern drafting book (I prefer Wninfred Aldritch) and see what they say about grading. You need to grade down a couple of sozes, but you need to do it proportionally or yes, results will bbe very mixed.

This is a Threads article on pattern-making, it might help you understand what is is and help you with your more basic patterns :)

Different parts of the body change size at different rates. So when grading you need to take less in some places more in others. It is a trial and error process till you perfect it. Look at multi-sided pattern layouts to help visualize the changes.
