Burda Style For people who sew
I’ve put a zip in a dress but it stands away from the back of my neck quite a bit. To fix it I thought moving it outwards slightly would bring it closer , which it does. Now I’m left with a bulge just below the zip.Where did I go wrong? did I move it out too far? or would it be better to just stitch the back up and put it in a side seam?

Without pictures I can’t tell exactly what is going wrong. I suspect the original problem wasn’t a zip problem, but a matter of that part of the dress not fitting. If you took the dress in all the way down the zip, you probably have a miss-match between the remaining seam and the zip. I can’t tell you what to do to fix it without seeing what the problem is: it could be either a fitting problem, or a sewing technique problem, and they will have different fixes.
