I don’t know whether to thank you or curse you Kate : ) – I had a look at your web page, and then starting exploring your links to on-line fabric shops!!!!
I am in Australia and struggle to find the dressmaking fabric I want – but no more!
I already have enough fabric to clothe an entire small village – it has been end of Financial year sales here in Aus so I have been using this as an excuse to stock up.
Now I have found a whole new collection of fabrics I want to buy…..my credit card is already groaning.
seriously – thanks Kate for sharing these links!

To be a true seamstress you must have a stash of fabric!

I have a large project going down here… I had to cover it all from stash or gifted fabric. So far the list reads:
3 shifts: two from cotton from the stash, one from gifted linen
2 Caraco jackets: one of linen with linen lining from stash, one of gifted silk and cotton brocade with cotton lining from stash (in a prefect match as well!)
1 pair of stays with 1m remnant that cost £1, and cotton and boning from stash. I did have to buy the ribbon for this along with the remnant.
1 flanelette under petticoat from stash
1 pair of pocket hoops from stash
1 lilac satin petticoat from stash
1 lilac cotton and linen mix under petticoat from stash (there will be about 9m of this left! I had 12m in two 6m chunks…)
1 black wool satin petticoat from stash
1 velvet cloak from stash: I have lining in the stash to use with this… Must dig both of them out!
1 tricorne hat from stash
1 massive Gainsborough style hat from stash
1 straw hat from stash
(I did have to buy feathers and ribbons for the hats. About £15 in all… )
1 purple taffeta sacque gown and matching petticoat from stash, trimmed with pewter coloured lace from stash and black gifted lace, lined with cotton and linen from stash
1 polonaise gown with fabric gifted from another bonkers costumer’s stash!
1 silk fichu from gifted silk chiffon
3 white cotton fishus from muslin from stash
There may also be a quilted petticoat…
A very dear friend made me a gift of gloves, the world’s largest and most wicked hat pin, and a Venetian mask to paint and decorate.
So far I can’t see the gaps in the stash… The box lids are just easier to close…

“She who dies with the most fabric wins” seems to be a common aim amongst seamstresses!
