Can anyone recommend an Ikea table that would make a good cutting table? TIA!

How wide is your fabric that you usually use, plus do you have room or need one that folds up?
I just use a large cardboard on my queen bed to cut on. It hurts my back and my husband complains if I drop pins — (ok, he is not sleeping in the bed when I am cutting out).
I am so cheap that I could just go to Ikea and find a discarded carton and use it to cut out on my bed or carpet or another table that I didn’t want to scratch. If you really want to buy a table just for cutting go ahead. I would love to have a room just for my sewing. !!!!!

Ikea has a system where you choose a table top and the feet for it. There are also round extenders… Check their website in your area, under office, I reckon.

I use an old table top, on adjustable trestles I bought in Aldi. I’ve seen plenty folk using a flat panel door the same way. Those doors are cheap! :D

If you have a friend who is handy with tools, have him make you work-shop table, then cover the top with a thin layer of cotton batting and fabric. (This is what we used when I worked in a costume shop).
It will also serve you as an ironing table, and you can put pins/tacks straight down through the pattern, cloth into padding (so pins don’t distort the paper/fabric). And you can have it made at the perfect height for you.
You would need some 2″×4″s, and plywood or a door; should be pretty cheap. My fiancé is going to make me one.

Oh that sounds great! I bet it helps stabilise slippery fabrics too when your trying to cut them… I may have to ,make one in the future!
