Hi,
I’m making a copy of this dress
|\http://img2.bdbphotos.com/images/orig/e/u/eu6o6bw5b5m5e56b.jpg\| I have the “slip”. But I’m really stuck with the chiffon dress. I have no idea what closure I chould use? Invisible zipper? Hook and eye? And how should I finish the fabric? I was thinking about using french seams. But that isn’t possible with french seams. Help!!!

It looks to be elastic waisted. If you make it flowy enough you shouldn’t need a zip it should just fit over your head. I’d say the back neck might have a rouleau and button.

Yes. Even if that is not how the pictured dress is finished it would look really delicate and beautiful. If it were mine I’d make covered buttons and rouleau.
But why is she at the races with no hat, tut tut :)
I was going to ask what I should make with some lovely silk chiffon I have, now I know. lol

I think the seam allowances need to be very narrow and just finish them with the nearest thing you can get to overlocking – unless you have an overlocking machine, which I don’t. I found a couple of stitches on my brother machine that finish fabric like this quite well – you need to experiment with scraps of fabric.

I use the rolled hem stitch on the overlocker to sew chiffon. Otherwise look here: http://www.diceyhome.free-online.co.uk/KatePages/Learning/sheer-seams/making_seams_in_sheer_fabrics.htm
I usually find that the ‘overlock’ stitches on the sewing machine are too thread heavy and stiff for silk chiffon.
