Width of project images

I’m confused as to the recommended size of project images. The website says variously that they should be at least 615 pixels wide and elsewhere that they should be 475 pixels wide: a little experimentation with exporting images from existing projects shows that they are all displayed at 475 pixels. However the ‘gallery’ images seem to be wider.
I normally crop/scale mine to 475, but for my latest project tried adding the first image at 615 pixels: the only result seems to be that it has been horizontally compressed to exactly the same size as the other photos in the project and as a result I look taller and thinner in that pic….
What is the desired upload size?
