Trying to sew a scarf from old t-shirts without a serger. Do I need to use stabilizer?, what is the setting for the sewing machine to sew on jersey knits, and are there any sizes to start with as far as cutting each piece.

For sewing knit fabric on a sewing machine you can use: a stretch stitch (see your manual) a narrow zigzag (1.5mm wide, 2.5mm long)

When sewing across the stretchiest direction (usually the widthwise direction) it helps tremendously to use an even-feed foot or a walking foot. For parts you don’t want to stretch when finished, you can “stay” them by sewing ribbon or non-stretch tape on.
