Would anyone like to do a Project Runway sew along? We would try to recreate the same challenge from each weeks episode and see what everyone comes up with. However, we would have a week to complete each challenge and we have the advantage of using a pattern or your own design. You can pick and choose which ones you want to participate in and we will have no “you’re either in or you’re out”. If you don’t watch Project Runway you can still participate. Also if you want to know more about Project Runway you can view their website at: http://www.mylifetime.com/on-tv/shows/project-runway or here: http://projectrunway.seenon.com/
Tonight’s challenge, Aug. 20th, was a red carpet design.

Oh, I wish I didn’t have to go to work, I’d be so in, but I don’t have enough time I’m afraid. Making a red carpet design would be so much fun!
Aug 21, 2009, 02.45 PMby Sew4my3
Great to hear that you want to participate labou! I did like the denim challenge as well but have to say that the “unconventional materials” ones are my favorite. So get to work or as Tim would say " Carry on!".
ichigogirl, I am sorry you don’t have enough time but maybe you can do a sketch of what your design might be and then share that. Maybe a doll dress design would work. I would love to see what you come up with!
I hope some more members will want to participate. I just love how creative our members are and it is so inspiring to see all the wonderful work. I hope this sew along will also show a variety of skills as well as provide some with a great challenge. This is so exciting!

Great ideas! I might might make something and post it too late… it again depends on the time-factor. If I had a dress-form I’d be able to work more creatively and faster, so I might just have to run off and buy one ;-).
Either way, I’ll check in on the sew-along and take a look at what you all create :-)
Aug 21, 2009, 04.04 PMby Cloudberry
Wow! This would be so much fun! But a red carpet dress isn’t something i would sew since I don’t afford buying fabric for something I wouldn’t use… I sucks being a poor student..
I’d love to participate if the challenge was to make something more wearable :-)
Aug 21, 2009, 04.11 PMby Sew4my3
Cloudberry, each week I will post the new challenge and you participate in only the ones you wish to. If you want you can sketch a design and participate that way rather than make a garment you can’t use. Another idea would be to make a red carpet design for a doll so you don’t have to come up with yards/meters of fabric. I really don’t want to exclude anyone from this sew along so if you have another creative way to participate please do. I would love to see what you come up with!

It is a terrible that you have to work will.james! Just kidding it is great that you have a job during these times when jobs are hard to find. Just keep in mind that there will be a new challenge every week and if you find that you have the time, please check in to see what the challenge is. Also, the item does not have to made for a real person and can be made to fit a doll if you find that works better for your schedule or even a sketch will work. Just something so we can see your creativity.
Maybe you can find someone to work with, you come up with the ideas and someone sews. Anyway, this is just some idea’s and you do not have to make anything but please stay in the discussions so we can get your input.

Hey, I’m in! Would love to enter some of the challenges. Great idea! If I can’t finish something, I might just do some draping and tacking on a mannequin, if that is okay. The details can be worked out later, maybe. I am envious of those who have jobs now but I guess there are some advantages to being jobless.

fashionsplashin, draping is just fine too. I just think it would be great for everyone to be able to get there creative juices flowing no matter what forum they choose. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

I might be up for this. Being unemployeed time is not a problem and most of my day is spent sewing anyway.

Fantastic! If it takes a little longer to get through some of the challenges that is just fine, as I work a little slower than most and will probably be working a week behind. This is so exciting!
Aug 23, 2009, 11.00 PMby oscarthegrouch108
i’ll definitely participate in a challenge or two. but i’m also going to pass on the red carpet one. no sense in having a party dress with no party to wear it to!
but, i wonder if my wedding dress is red carpet worthy? lol….that reminds me i have yet to upload the finished dress!
a couple questions though, is there something we need to put in the title of the finished project (like project runway, challenge 1)? will there be a forum topic for each week/challenge?
Aug 24, 2009, 12.45 AMby Me_Chic
I’ll definitely participate in 2 or 3 challenges!!! this is very exciting!! but I cant participate in the red carpet challenge but I think I might be able to make the second or third one oh and I have the same question as oscarthegrouch108
Aug 24, 2009, 01.07 AMby erdronen
ooh how fun! i may participate in a few also! too busy for a red carpet one, but maybe i’ll just try to sketch something up for fun! hmmm…

Oh I am so glad that we have so many who want to participate! Oscarthegrouch108 brought up a good point and provided a great answer about how to label our creations. Do the name of your garment with Project Runway Challenge 1 or whatever weekly challenge it is that you are posting after the name. Wonderful idea Oscarthegrouch108!

We have our own Project Runway here in Australia. Last week they made outfits from vegetables and other produce bought at the market!!! Cabbages, onions, carrots and eggs were big!!

Oh, that is really awesome! Maybe you could add your weekly challenges and that would give members a choice of which challenge they want to participate in. Is there a website for the Australian Project Runway?

That sounds like fun! My sewing time is limited, but if the challenge is something that would fit into my wardrobe I definitely would do it. I work better under pressure!

Also, as Nikkishell informed us, Australia has their Project Runway that is running a few weeks ahead of the United States. They are on their 8th challenge if the website is up to date, so I thought it would be nice to give you a second choice for a challenge. Australia’s Project Runway – Challenge #2 – Design at least two sexy pieces of sleepwear.
Here is the Australia Project Runway site: http://www.arenatv.com.au/projectrunway/default.aspx

i dunno which to do, the maternity (not needed now, but someday in the future) or the sleepwear (could make for fun….ahem activities, but not fun to make with the serger on the fritz).
maybe i’ll do regular clothes that would stretch to maternity…….
Sep 2, 2009, 01.48 PMby teresaschwarz
I’m going to jump or am I too late? I love PR and feel so inspired after watching it but like so many things I don’t need maternity or red carpet wear right now. So we’ll see what this episode brings!

You are always welcome to jump in anywhere you feel is right for you. I think most of us are waiting for a challenge that is practical for our lives as well. With times being what they are it doesn’t make sense to waste resources on something we can’t use.
Thanks for joining us and I look forward to seeing your creations!

I would LOVE to do this, unfortunetly time would not allow, but i do want to sketch, I need to work on my sketching skills. Also I don’t have cable so I have to watch the show a day after everyone else on my trusty lap top! I’m gonna sketch, don’t know if I’ll post it, but I’ll sketch!

You participate in the challenges that you want and when you finish just post it in the projects section. For the title put your creation name with PR Challenge # at the end. Then after you do that come back here and let us know you have posted.
Every week I post the Challenges from both the U.S. and Australian Project Runways and you choose which one you may want to do or combine the two. It will be exciting to see which challenges you choose!
