Hello all,

I thought it would be a great idea to get a pattern swap going. I know that we all have patterns that we don’t use anymore, why not pass them on for others to use. What are your thoughts?

Sounds neat. How would you go about getting this started? Are you wanting for others to post their unwanted patterns and members contact each other. Maybe start it on ning? Let me know when you get it going. Happy sewing!

A pattern swap sounds great! Speaking of swapping – I am looking for people interested in joining in an international craft swap! I need 6 people willing to take part, it sounds like fun and you get pretty crafty things from around the world. If anyone is interested, drop me a line :-)

How funny – we have many of the same! Since I do costumes for musical theatre, I find that everytime I try to get rid of some pattern, I’m asked to design a show set in that time period – I think I’m doomed to forever keep them.

I have a bunch of vintage sewing patterns-many uncut, most not in my size (generally bust sizes 32,34, 36) that I would love to swap for vintage/new patterns in my size (Bust 40-48). I know that is a wide range but a lot of really nice patterns don’t come in plus-sizes. I am really about a 44.

Alright guys, I feel that Anna555 has a great idea here. To swap patterns please post your link to patterns on the iscussion board and fellow members can peruse the patterns and message you if they are interested in swapping. I would follow these restrictions: No more than 2 patterns at a time per member. The patterns be returned in the same shape they left. It is assumed that you will be tracing the pattern and sending it back. Just my thoughts.

I know not all are able to participate in a local Burdastyle Club, but it’s a great venue to get a pattern swap going. Maybe check in at your local sewing center/ fabric store. They may be willing to host something like this if your willing to do the groundwork. The logistics of shipping patterns back and forth seems a bit much for me.

i ship patterns through my post office. generally it costs $1.20 to $2.10 first class mail in the us. international is a little more but the great thing the post office has is the flat rate envelope. it is $4.95 for whatever you can fit in it. i think it costs a little more to send internationally, but it’s worth it. i have to drive everywhere i need to go so mail is really conveniant for me.

i had the good luck to be the 1st emailer to a freecycle post for most of those patterns. allot of them are unused. i see that some of the styles people still wear, but the hammer pants not so much. i’m definetly not the sizes they are but i can grade a pattern really easily. those are not all of my patterns either. i have a big stash now. the 1 from the 1920’s i won with 3 others from the same year on ebay. i’m totaly ready to trade!!!!! i can’t wait to see what else is going to be traded!!!

I have patterns for swap posted at Flickr — I’d love to trade some! (By the way, there’s a vintage pattern trading group there, but it seems pretty inactive.) I generally look for B32.5 – B34 in pre-80s stuff, but always love amusing or interesting illustrations for my blog, which is devoted to patterns!

Wow Ann555, you have a whole pattern Store. He he he thats cool. I remember a time before that In my town in Puerto Rico always you can go to the fabrics stores around and you can get patterns in discount for just .25 cents. Incredible! I always used to go with my mother and aunts. And by doing that I acumulate boxes of patterns that I wish I can have it now. There was in different styles, and some very old but nice from Vogue, Simplicity and MC;Calls. Lots of them I never use it, because I was use more the ones that became my favorites. I wish that I can have something like that here. Well I will continue looking for all patterns you have guys, because I want to swap too, but a few years ago when I was so busy for sew my own clothes, I gave away all my patterns, so now Im back in the sewing world and now Im starting to buy patterns again. This is really fun. See you soon guys!

Have you guys thought of doing a pattern swap with local BSC groups? It’s a fun get together. A little cheese, a little wine (for those of age) and a whole lot of “Why on earth did I buy that?”. Good fun and laughs for the whole group.

I’ve got a heap of vintage and contemporary sewing patterns, sewing magazines and books up for swap here. Let me know if you have any back issues of Patrones, Knipmode or La Mia Boutique or old Burdas/ vintage Vogue designer patterns to swap. I really want to get this stuff out of the house so do let me know.
